Today, I am remembering a day in the darkest times of mourning the loss of my son, Kevin, when I became aware that I was being consumed and overwhelmed by grief.
Weary and sick with sorrow, I cried out to God . . .
"I can't bear this pain. This grief will surely kill me. I need Your healing peace." Immediately, I heard my Father's voice . . .
"Healing is not only possible, but it is promised to you and I will keep that promise. But, first My child, you will have to create space for My healing peace."
These inaudible words spoke directly into my brokenness and I understood that first of all I must genuinely desire God's healing peace and I must also create spaces in my heart, soul, mind and body to welcome and receive His healing and His peace.
I decided to make a list of some of the things that I believed I needed to create spaces for, at that time . . .
*Create space for GRIEVING (expressing my inward pain and sorrow)
*Create space for FEELINGS/EMOTIONS (feelings are not wrong or right, they are just feelings)
*Create space for GRATITUDE (look for blessings in life - name them, thank God for them)
*Create space for LOVE (be careful not to shutdown or shut out love, give it and receive it freely -don't be afraid to love).
*Create space for HOPE (hold on to the promises of God)
*Create space for JOY (it's ok to feel happy and laugh)
*Create space for CELEBRATION (don't feel guilty about celebrating life - "rejoice & be glad!)
*Create space for FRIENDSHIP (don't neglect your friends, they are special gifts from God)
*Create space for PEACE (peace, peace, wonderful peace - true rest and healing from sorrow, pain and sufferings)
As I began to create, mark and preserve these spaces, I soon realized that I was actually creating space for God. I also realized that I couldn't be ambivelant about healing. Thankfully, today, I am reminded of how much I have healed and I am extremely thankful that God answered the cry of my heart so specifically, as only He can.
Would you consider emailing me how you, too, have and/or are creating space for healing in your life, as you continue to make your way through the journey of grief? I would be so very pleased to share your thoughts and experiences (anonymously) on this website and on our A Mother LIke Me Facebook page. I know how helpful it is for moms to hear from other "moms like us" and i hope you will share your healing thoughts and experiences soon.
Continuing to Create Space for more of God's Healing Peace,
Angie "a mom like you"
