"Five Candles of Remembrance"

This is a lovely candlelighting ceremony that we can do in honor and remembrance of our children who are no longer here with us.

I have experienced this special time of remembrance in a group setting and at home on our son, Kevin's, Birthday, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and on the day he headed off to Heaven - anytime that I feel the need to bring the light of remembrance into my life.

The First Candle represents our GRIEF.
The pain of losing you is intense. It reminds us of the depth of our love for you.

The Second Candle represents our COURAGE to confront our sorrow,
to weave it into our family tapestry, as we  make our way through the "valley" of grief
with God's help and comforting presence in our hearts and lives.

The Third Candle we light in your MEMORY for the times
we laughed and for the times we cried. For the silly things you did.
For the love and the joy you gave us.

The Fourth Candle we light for our LOVE of you.
We cherish the special place in our hearts that will always be reserved for you and you alone.
We thank God for the gift that your life here with us brought to each of us.

The Fifth Candle represents our HOPE that you live on in that eternal place where there
are no more sorrows and no more tears, only joy and perfect peace.
That your life somehow made a difference in the lives of those who knew and were known by you.
That you will live on our hearts and in our memories until we are together again.
Until then, we LOVE you and we REMEMBER you!

Remembering with Love,

May the reflections and expressions of mothers' hearts be a source of comfort, help and encouragement and may you, like these moms, accept God's great exchange as "He gives beauty for ashes, joy for mourning, praise for the spirit of heaviness . . " Isaiah 61:3
