It is with great pleasure that I share a special opportunity for moms and dads who have suffered the loss of a child to share something of their compassion, comfort and hope with orphaned children in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
What a blessed connection . . orphaned children and moms and dads who have suffered the loss of a child . . . a connection made in Heaven, 'ya think?
"Gifts of Hope is a project started in memory of Hope Mackenzie Herman. Hope fought her battle with cancer, which was caused by a rare gene called Li Fraumeni Syndrome. The disease causes childhood cancer and is very rare. In 2005 when Hope was 8, the disease took her father’s life after a 13 year battle with cancer; he was 34 years old. Hope knew the value of life, as she watched her dad fight so hard to stay alive. He taught her to keep her eyes focused on Jesus and Eternity, and to make every day count. On January 11, 2008, Hope joined her Dad in Heaven.
While Hope was going to chemo treatments in Denver, she would often want to stop to help the homeless. The Gifts of Hope project was started as a way to reach those who are hungry and thirsty, and to tell them about infinite hope that is found in Jesus Christ. Bags of food and water are distributed to the homeless people in our community along with a book called "Infinite Hope." This book was written about the night of Hope’s baptism, and the infinite hope she had in Jesus Christ.
In 2011, Diane and her husband, Justin, brought "Gifts of Hope" to Guatemala. After getting involved with orphan ministry around the globe, their family was led to move to Guatemala City, Guatemala. There are so many children there who do not have food to eat or clean water to drink. The orphanages are overcrowded and funding is practically non-existent. We began by running a guest house for short term mission teams, with the goal of connecting churches from the United States with churches and orphanages around the world, and we will be opening our first "House of Hope" very soon."
Bob and I have made a personal commitment to partner with Gifts of Hope, and we hope that you will consider joining us, and so many others, in supporting the Herman's ministry to orphaned children and their community and neighbors in Guatemala City by praying, giving or "going" with a ministry team or group that will make a trip to Guatemala City in the future. There are several ways that you can get involved and help - simply contact Diane Herman at Dianeherman7@yahoo.com to begin your connection and partnership with "Gifts of Hope."
