"Sometimes Happy, Other Times Rough"

Many families have icons and Charlie Brown is one of our favorites.

Our oldest son, Eric, related to Charlie Brown from the time he was old enough to know who he was, and to this day, when I see a Charlie Brown cartoon in the newspaper or online, I have to send it to him.

As a post-war babyboomer, the idea that life isn't meant to be easy was contrary to the hope that our parents shared with our generatiom after World War II, and we all believed that we would live in peace and be able to "pursue happiness."

Hope does that to people, which is a marvelous gift that God has given us, but it didn't take long after the early post-war days to realize that life is "sometimes happy, other times rough."

Probably one of the best and most helpful lessons that I have learned in my life is in complete agreement with this Charlie Brown cartoon that "life isn't meant to be easy," but rather "lived," and in truly living I have experience real happiness and rough times, because "that's life!"

What are some of the rough times and  places in your life?  Are you fighting against difficulties or yielding and giving in to God's plan and purpose, which He promises is for "good . . and for a future and a hope?" -Jeremiah 29:11

When faced with a challenge, heartache, sorrow or rough times, how do you make your way back toward better days? For me, it helps to know that  I am not alone in experiencing happy and rough times. There is comfort in knowing that this is just how life is and that others experience this, too. Mostly, it helps me to know that no matter my circumstances that God is with me and that I am at peace.

These blog pages are written by and for moms who have suffered the loss of a child.

May the reflections and expressions of mothers' hearts be a source of comfort, help and encouragement and may you, like these moms, accept God's great exchange as "He gives beauty for ashes, joy for mourning, praise for the spirit of heaviness . . " Isaiah 61:3
