What a blessed promise of God that He is close to the broken hearted and that He heals.
Through the years, I have learned a great deal about grief and how it affects our heart, soul, mind and body. I have also learned that people can literally "die of a broken heart." This is a real issue and I was surprised to discover that this is not just a saying, but a reality.
Grief, abuse, disease, betrayal, war, violence, conflict, rejection and abandonment are just a few types of losses that come to my mind, as I imagine a pain so great that it could actually kill someone, and of course the loss that traumatized me was the loss of our son, Kevin, in 2002.
There were times early in my grieving the loss of my son that I thought my heart would burst, and I actually felt like I was going to have a heart attack on several occasions, when my grief overwhelmed me.
Often, I am asked "how have you lived with the losses and trials in your life, and yet you have held onto your faith, your hope, your passion for God and life, as well as your sense of humor?" My answer is simple "by God's grace, mercy and Him being present to me in my brokenness.
To some, my response may seem simplistic or even religiously pious, but for me, and others who have experienced what I have experienced of God's love and faithfulness, it is the absolute truth . . . He is most certainly "close to and heals the brokenhearted."
Of course I have questioned and have been perplexed about why certain things have happened the way they have, but, I have been consistent to draw close to Him and to trust that He eternally cares for me, is ever close and will not fail me and He never has!
Does this mean heartache and loss will pass me by in this life, not at all. It means that no matter what happens to me and/or my loved ones or the people I care about, HE will be with us "always."
This is the second blogpost on healing that I have posted within a few months, and it is probably because I overflow with gratitude to our God and King for His goodness, Him being fully present to us in our heartache and pain, as well as our joy and blessings.
"Thank You, Father God, that you are a promise-keeper and that you promise us that You are with us "always."
He has been close to me and He has healed my broken heart and body many times and so I will continue to
connect my hurts with the Healer.
